Performance is culmination of intense summer course

It looked like a beehive gone mad.

As dozens of pre-teen ballet dancers stretched and practiced their routines behind a massive black curtain, an assembly line of mothers and volunteers helped apply makeup on other performers.

Ashley Bishop, 17, had three volunteers working on her hair and makeup as little dancers buzzed around, anxious to show their parents and friends what they had been doing for the last five weeks.

Later, the crowd packed into the Vail Theatre of the Arts at Empire High School watched Sunday as the 55 dancers with the Dancing in the Streets AZ studio moved around the multicolored stage.
